Cambridge English: Young Learners
Cambridge English: Young Learners (YLE) are a series of exams designed to assess the English language skills of children aged between 7 and 12. The exams are available at three assessment levels (Starters, Movers and Flyers), which encourages children to work and notice their improvement.
Starters is usually taken by children between the ages of 7 and 8 who have had about 100 hours of English lessons. This exam encourages the child to study English from an early age and nurtures positive attitude towards language tests. Movers is usually taken by children between the ages of 8 and 11 who have had about 175 hours of English lessons. This exam encourages children to communicate in basic English and creates positive attitude towards language tests. Flyers is usually taken by children between the ages of 9 and 12 who have been learning English for about 3 years (at least 250 hours). It shows that the child can understand simple everyday situations and communicate in them using elementary English.

All children taking YLE receive a certificate with up to five shields with the logo of Cambridge for each part of the exam. The number of shields reflects the child’s performance. A total of 10 or more such shields show that the child is ready to begin preparation for the next level of Cambridge exams.
